By proceeding, I agree that I understand the following disclosures:
I. How We Work in Washington. Based on your preferences, we provide you with information about one or more of our contracted senior living providers ("Participating Communities") and provide your Senior Living Care Information to Participating Communities. It is your sole responsibility to select the appropriate care for yourself or your loved one. We work with both you and the Participating Communities in your search. We do not permit our Advisors to have an ownership interest in Participating Communities.
II. How We Are Paid. We do not charge you any fee – we are paid by the Participating Communities. Some Participating Communities pay us a percentage of the first month's standard rate for the rent and care services you select. We invoice these fees after the senior moves in.
III. When We Tour. APFM tours certain Participating Communities in Washington (typically more in metropolitan areas than in rural areas.) During the 12 month period prior to December 31, 2017, we toured 86.2% of Participating Communities with capacity for 20 or more residents.

How am I missing this information?
Have you applied for medicaid?
Only your own facility can give you answers. You need an appointment with your facility management/administrators and with whomever is managing your finances if there is anyone. My best out to you.
I am wondering if this is the person in the AL and not a third party. If the third party please post as who you are in relationship to the resident.
Is Medicaid LTC paying for your rent? If so, usually your SS and pension do go towards your care and Medicaid pays their share. There is no additional payment because you should have no money when Medicaid LTC is involved. Where u able to get into AL on a voucher? Because ALs usually do not except Medicaid LTC. In my state you have to private pay for at least 2 yrs for Medicaid to step in.
Unless you "bought into" a Senior Community I do not understand a lump sum amount. My Mom was private pay. She did pay a fee that was non-refundable. Then she just paid her monthly rent/care.
Medicaid for LTC does not work the way you are describing. Are u handling you own finances or is your son? Without more details, I don't see how we can help. I have never heard of owing anything when Medicaid LTC is involved. Your son cannot be made to pay if he did not sign anything making him responsible. Signing as your POA does not make him responsible.
What I think maybe happening is your not on Medicaid for LTC only for Health. Your pension and SS were enough to offset the cost of your rent and care, leaving you $600 you needed to pay out of pocket. Now your savings are gone. So you no longer can remain in the AL. You need to now find out if the AL will allow you to file for Medicaid and allow you to stay. If not, then you can still file for Medicaid but will need to go into Long-term care or find a board and care who will take ur pension and SS as payment.
I think if your worried about son being responsible for your balance due, son needs to get involved. He needs to talk to the Administrator. You may need to move and with all your complaints about the place, that maybe a good thing.

I think we may be dealing with a Troll. If not, it would be nice if they would post, identify themselves and give us more details. Otherwise, I think we should stop wasting our time posting.
This money thing sounds fishy to me. Please follow other readers' opinions and good luck.
Are you possibly using your social security (and maybe pension) plus the $600 to self pay for your AL residence? And the Medicaid you get is a waiver program that gives you some at home services? If that's the case, it's probably time to apply for long term care nursing home Medicaid bed.
Most AL facilities are self pay, just like you're doing now. When folks run out of money, they apply for Nursing Home Medicaid which pays the facility and no out of pocket. I think there's a few states that have some AL Medicaid paid beds, but not many. Some AL facilities even have higher level of care NH beds you can move to by applying for NH medicaid.
Definitely talk to the facility to find out if they accept Medicaid bed patients. They can help you apply for Medicaid bed to keep you in their facility or to move you to nursing home like most folks end up doing. There's more probability that when you run out of money, you'll have to go to another facility. Some states do hold children responsible...I read it on this site and looked it up. It has something to do with familial responsibility, I believe.
I will wish you good luck and I will hope you update us, but do discuss this ASAP with your own administration. This has to be so worrisome for you and my heart goes out to you.

JoAnn: I did see your posts on this thread.
Talk to the county, senior department.
Call Medicaid and Medicare.
The facility has clear legal guidelines (or should have) with what they can and cannot do. If they can 'kick you out,' they will know the rules and regulations. Do not fear reaching out to them. Read the fine print you signed on all documents / contracts upon move-in.
Do you have family ? a friend ? an attorney that you can talk to - to assist you with these things?
There are low-income attorney services in some areas. Check with your county and see what is available to you.
