By proceeding, I agree that I understand the following disclosures:
I. How We Work in Washington. Based on your preferences, we provide you with information about one or more of our contracted senior living providers ("Participating Communities") and provide your Senior Living Care Information to Participating Communities. The Participating Communities may contact you directly regarding their services. APFM does not endorse or recommend any provider. It is your sole responsibility to select the appropriate care for yourself or your loved one. We work with both you and the Participating Communities in your search. We do not permit our Advisors to have an ownership interest in Participating Communities.
II. How We Are Paid. We do not charge you any fee – we are paid by the Participating Communities. Some Participating Communities pay us a percentage of the first month's standard rate for the rent and care services you select. We invoice these fees after the senior moves in.
III. When We Tour. APFM tours certain Participating Communities in Washington (typically more in metropolitan areas than in rural areas.) During the 12 month period prior to December 31, 2017, we toured 86.2% of Participating Communities with capacity for 20 or more residents.
IV. No Obligation or Commitment. You have no obligation to use or to continue to use our services. Because you pay no fee to us, you will never need to ask for a refund.
V. Complaints. Please contact our Family Feedback Line at (866) 584-7340 or
[email protected] to report any complaint. Consumers have many avenues to address a dispute with any referral service company, including the right to file a complaint with the Attorney General's office at: Consumer Protection Division, 800 5th Avenue, Ste. 2000, Seattle, 98104 or 800-551-4636.
VI. No Waiver of Your Rights. APFM does not (and may not) require or even ask consumers seeking senior housing or care services in Washington State to sign waivers of liability for losses of personal property or injury or to sign waivers of any rights established under law.I agree that: A.I authorize A Place For Mom ("APFM") to collect certain personal and contact detail information, as well as relevant health care information about me or from me about the senior family member or relative I am assisting ("Senior Living Care Information"). B.APFM may provide information to me electronically. My electronic signature on agreements and documents has the same effect as if I signed them in ink. C.APFM may send all communications to me electronically via e-mail or by access to an APFM web site. D.If I want a paper copy, I can print a copy of the Disclosures or download the Disclosures for my records. regardless of who’s name is on the title, the car is only going to be used for her doc appt. I’m leaning towards putting it in my name b/c it’ll save a lot of angst & paperwork after she passes. The car will not be sold as long as she’s alive. Another reason is my BIL, who will be there with his hand out to get what he can after she passes. He has refused to help take care of her these past 20 months, hasn’t offered to take her for a week to give us a break. The car is her only asset.
You shouldn't ever be paying sales tax on a transfer.
In some states you can be added to the title; in California you can add immediate family member to the title. We just did this, and as members of AAA we went to one of their offices to do it. In California, at least they are linked up with DMV offices. You can also Call your local Department of Motor Vehicles to see what and where to do something.
You don't want to try any fancy stuff like "gifting". I have no idea, but this could have a bad repercussion if MIL ever needs to apply for medicaid and its 5 year (usually) lookback on gifting suns.
Looks like BarbBrooklyn has some good info for you below.
Florida.
Do what you have to do to safely transport her and not have a vehicle rotting to the wheels in your yard. With dementia all bets are off and you do what you have to do.
I still can't believe that Florida has the gaul to charge sales tax for bringing your own vehicle. Sounds really fishy to me. Perhaps she never paid sales tax when she purchased it? We fought a war over this taxation, sorry, it just blows me away.
There is no reason she should have to pay sales tax.
Get her car insurance changed to Florida.

What reason does she give for not wanting to transfer the car to you?
Remember this: this is HER car and therefore HER problem to solve.
her car, her issue,,, if she doesn't want to drive, let her call the taxi...
storage fees? registration fees, insurance fees... it all adds up. wipe your hands clean of this... if it gets towed, stolen, or trashed, it is not your issue.
SQUIRRELS... THEY ARE THE WORST!
I don't understand ... sorry...
if she cannot drive... tell her to sell it...
if she is that big or needs a wheelchair access van.. then hire one if and when she needs to go about... other than that... she really does not need a vehicle...
doctor appointments I found out, can be on facetime/video apps now... why else would she need to be driven about...
you can order groceries online due to COVID..but it seems like you are close enough to go get and bring back...
hair? who has hair? mine is falling out in bunches :(
yup the plumber.. more and more service companies are getting busier since more people are staying home.. One said, when he sees the temps rise, his phone will ring double the time.. crazy times.... wished I took plumbing or electric classes. may I still will..
Why are you POA of MIL?
sorry, I don't read back stories often.. as in this case... it's late, got to go to bed.
