I order from Walmart.com and everything is sent to my door pretty quickly. They do not deliver perishables or produce, dairy, etc. The box comes, I toss it out, then wipe down every item in the box before putting it away, then wash my hands.
My local grocery store does offer curbside pick up. I order what I want online (which is kind of a pain) and then DH goes to pick it up at a pre designated time. He's waited in his car in line for upwards of 1 hour, however, to pick up those groceries. The delivery service has been unavailable for a month now.
We've gotten Chinese food delivered a few times and handled things the same way.
Cooked food is considered safe. I'm sure there will be people who disagree with that statement. So let me rephrase: I personally consider cooked food safe. If I wipe down everything that comes into my home with bleach spray, I feel safe in doing so.
We can't live in a bubble. All we can do is our best to stay safe. If you are getting groceries from any store, the same math has to apply, right? If you feel safe going to the grocery store, or eating food from the grocery store, then ordering cooked food from take out should be okay too. Just wipe down the outer containers or throw them away outside in the trash and re-house them in your own containers. And once the food is reheated, you're all set.
I handle the bags and containers. I take everything out of the containers and put the containers in the bag they came in. If the sandwiches are wrapped, I use the paper to put the food on a plate. I never touch the food. The wrappers go in the bag. The bag goes in the trash and I wash my hands. I do not wipe down the containers. I do wipe down groceries I bring in the house.
I have a separate area in the laundry room that all extra bags are going into for use in a month or so.
After this is over, I don’t think I’ll trust anyone with my bedding, food, etc. our retirement will be camping or hotels we know well. I cancelled a cruise we had booked. Not getting trapped on a floating Petri dish.
I reuse the grocery plastic bags, I just let them sit for a couple of days. Or gives them an once over with Lysol. For me, I limit my spraying as I only have one can of Lysol, as the grocery shelves are bare of this product.
From what I heard, the virus lives the longest time on cardboard boxes, like for 2 or 3 days. Usually if I get a delivery, I will spray the box itself with Lysol and wait until two days later to open the box.
I would order on-line, and 15-20 minutes the meals were ready for curbside pick-up. The Staff here had on masks and gloves. To have it delivered, one would need to order more items.
It's my understand that the C-19 virus cannot transfer with food. I did spray some Lysol on a paper towel and ran it over the food containers. I kept the paper bag away from the cats for a couple of days. Wash hands, wash hands, etc.
I do the grocery home delivery, and it can be a challenge to get a time slot. I order every two weeks do to time slots already being reserved. I leave the garage door open, vehicle is out, I place a blue tarp on the garage floor. The delivery person knows to place the bags on the tarp. I consider myself lucky if I get 60% of what I order :P
The food itself does not carry the virus and heat does not kill it. It’s the restaurant bags and containers you need to clean before touching and then get rid of. Of course wash your hands with soap and water before eating.
